TECH: Ingenious $100 Laptop at MIT

Not only is this laptop cheap, but its design is very well thought out. The battery doubles as a handle and the shoulder strap is the power supply and plug. I would definitely buy a few of these.

Here is the direct link for this down load.

SimplyHired does some cool stuff like linking to PayScale for salary comparison, and [my fave] mapping job opportunities with Google Maps. This can be quite helpful if you're moving to a new city and want to know where the job is, or you just want to compare commute options or neighborhoods. Oh! I think I saw some AJAX here and there, too!

TECH: GoogleNet

Google has been buying up fiber optic cable like crazy. And, they are doing a lot of other things that has everyone else's spidey senses tingling in regards to them starting thier own wi-fi oops free wi-fi service. Hopefully it's pretty fast. I wonder how fast it will be in comparison to Internet2. Think about the software and services they've released lately...Google Talk, GMail, Google SMS, a revamped Google Desktop, Google Video, Google Web Accelerator, Google Maps and one of my personal favorites Google Earth. There is even word of a simple operating system named Google OS. Damn that's a lot of Google. If it's innovative, fast, and free, it's for me. The good folks at Engadget have more insite. Check out all of Google's products and services here.
The Official FAQ to Google's Secure Access Wi-Fi can be found here.

Lexus also touts the GS450h as the first rear-wheel-drive car to receive the hybrid treatment (all-wheel drive will not be available)......Hey I'll gladly accept this for a X-mas gift. Music: The Minstrel Show Drops Today - Do your home work!

Little Brother's second album "The Minstrel Show" drops today. Get up, get out and support REAL HIPHOP. I've had the album for a week now and I must say it's a CLASSIC. That's two in a row for Little Brother. I don't know why the Source would give them less than five mics on this one. Oh and if you didn't hear their first album, "The Listening", you should grab that one too. Those of you who don't know what a minstrel show is click here. Then see how it relates to hiphop nowadays. Hey post your comments and let me know what you think of the album.

Music: Jay-Z is trying to sign the Roots/Mr. Carter may drop an album

I peeped this on HipHopgame.com.

Jay-Z Has Plans for Def Jam Left

Jay-Z plans to create Def Jam Left, which he describes as "an artist-driven label with very low deals so people are not pressured by first-week SoundScan [sales], so we can build artists."
The Def Jam presidents is hoping to make the Roots the first group signed to the label.

"I'm talking to the Roots right now," he said. "I'm confident to put out there that we might make this happen. The label would probably begin at the top of the year, but I hope to have the Roots signed by the time they get off their international tour."

"You all are hearing things from me -- you just haven't heard an album," he says. "Who knows? I'm still going in the studio, getting on remixes and things like that. But it's the people. When people want something bad enough, it happens. And they want it bad (laughs). I'm trying to hold out, but I don't know how long I can."

Look I like the way Def Jam is trying to break out of its normal M.O. This is definitely good for hiphop right now.

Now as for that Jay album...I along with a few others believe that this is definitely going to happen. I'll have finger on the I TOLD YOU SO button when it does.

Oh and since we're talking about possibilities....What about Jay and Nas on Kanye's "We Major" remix? It could happen (I hope it does).

Politics: Michael Moore's letter to Bush.

Here's a letter from Michael Moore to George Bush, talking about the slow response towards the hurricane Katrina evacuation. Read it and tell me what you think.

Dear Mr. Bush:

Any idea where all our helicopters are? It's Day 5 of Hurricane Katrina and thousands remain stranded in New Orleans and need to be airlifted. Where on earth could you have misplaced all our military choppers? Do you need help finding them? I once lost my car in a Sears parking lot. Man, was that a drag.

Also, any idea where all our national guard soldiers are? We could really use them right now for the type of thing they signed up to do like helping with national disasters. How come they weren't there to begin with?

Last Thursday I was in south Florida and sat outside while the eye of Hurricane Katrina passed over my head. It was only a Category 1 then but it was pretty nasty. Eleven people died and, as of today, there were still homes without power. That night the weatherman said this storm was on its way to New Orleans. That was Thursday! Did anybody tell you? I know you didn't want to interrupt your vacation and I know how you don't like to get bad news. Plus, you had fundraisers to go to and mothers of dead soldiers to ignore and smear. You sure showed her!

I especially like how, the day after the hurricane, instead of flying to Louisiana, you flew to San Diego to party with your business peeps. Don't let people criticize you for this -- after all, the hurricane was over and what the heck could you do, put your finger in the dike?

And don't listen to those who, in the coming days, will reveal how you specifically reduced the Army Corps of Engineers' budget for New Orleans this summer for the third year in a row. You just tell them that even if you hadn't cut the money to fix those levees, there weren't going to be any Army engineers to fix them anyway because you had a much more important construction job for them -- BUILDING DEMOCRACY IN IRAQ!

On Day 3, when you finally left your vacation home, I have to say I was moved by how you had your Air Force One pilot descend from the clouds as you flew over New Orleans so you could catch a quick look of the disaster. Hey, I know you couldn't stop and grab a bullhorn and stand on some rubble and act like a commander in chief. Been there done that.

There will be those who will try to politicize this tragedy and try to use it against you. Just have your people keep pointing that out. Respond to nothing. Even those pesky scientists who predicted this would happen because the water in the Gulf of Mexico is getting hotter and hotter making a storm like this inevitable. Ignore them and all their global warming Chicken Littles. There is nothing unusual about a hurricane that was so wide it would be like having one F-4 tornado that stretched from New York to ClevMieland.

No, Mr. Bush, you just stay the course. It's not your fault that 30 percent of New Orleans lives in poverty or that tens of thousands had no transportation to get out of town. C'mon, they're black! I mean, it's not like this happened to Kennebunkport. Can you imagine leaving white people on their roofs for five days? Don't make me laugh! Race has nothing -- NOTHING -- to do with this!

You hang in there, Mr. Bush. Just try to find a few of our Army helicopters and send them there. Pretend the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are near Tikrit.

Yours,

Michael Moore

Politics: Kanye, Bush, and Black People

Honestly, Kanye just said what many other people have been thinking for years. Unfortunately his statements seemed to overshadow the fundraising event. Our country has contingency planning for many worst case scenarios. The funding to protect the affected areas for those levees was cut. Our country has known since the 1920's that those levees needed to be fixed. Another thing that ticked me off was the fact that there are guys running around down there with AK47's shooting at the people trying to rescue them. Wow, I know if I was trying to rescue someone and they decided to shoot at me with an AK47, I would have no mercy on them. I ask that the survivors of hurricane Katrina stay positive. Check out Kanye's statements here.

Affordable hydrogen fueled cars - Never buy gas again!

I've been watching this develop for about a year and it seems to be nearing production. This converts your EXISTING car to run on hydrogen, and best of all, they give you a hydrogen generator that you can run at your own home for little to no cost. Even if you aren't interested in this kind of thing, it's still a good read, plenty of pictures ;).

Politics: How long will this bad decision making go on?

When you sit down and listen to the news about the damage levees that hurricane Katrina breached, it has to make you wonder just how smart our government officials really are. The levees are the only form of protection from the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, for these southern towns of the Gulf Coast. So you would think that keeping the levees in good condition was a first priority, but as usual our leaders weren't smart enough to listen to the warnings and funding to renovate the levees were cut anyway. Now we see the outcome for this oh so smart decision. Many are dead, thousand have lost everything, and towns are now cover to roof tops with contaminated water. Some say that it looks like a scene from a zombie movie. Dead bodies are everywhere and these towns that once lay full of life are now unlivable. It just seems like all our government is good for is taxing. It takes horrific situations to occur for our leaders to address growing problems. Personally I feel like thats a problem. If bad decision making continues, we in the U.S are doomed for many years to come.

Flooded city of New Orleans after hurricane Katrina hits. Man holds on for his life while waiting to be rescued.
