Politics: Bad Luck Bush

Photo
Last week was pretty rocky for president Bush, his approval rating fell to 39% and his problems just seem to keep piling up. The president has lost a lot of momentum since he started his presidency, and the complex problems that are arising (fixing his fractured party, high energy prices, rebuilding cities damaged by hurricanes, an unpopular war in Iraq, and ethical issues etc) is starting to make Americans very uneasy. With three years left in his term as president, Bush needs to gain the support and trust he once had with Americans, back. We need stability and good leadership to keep America out of negative situations. With so many problems occurring recently, I wonder if we have hit rock bottom or has the worst yet to come?? What do you think?

POLITICS: Exxon: $10 Billion in profits last quarter, $100 Billion in Revenue

Heads up people this is pimping in it's simplest form. Yeah, I know don't hate the player hate the game. Well I'm sick of playing this game. You should be too. $100 billion dollars (Dr. Evil face here). People we should be boycotting this like crazy. It's time to really pay attention to alternative sources of energy. As a matter of fact I promise to do my part by educating people about alternative sources of energy as much as possible.

"More than a billion dollars a day, $45 million an hour, almost $340 for every living American that's what Exxon Mobil reported in third-quarter revenue Thursday.

The financial results drew outrage from politicians and consumer advocates"

I'm sure glad I did my part by paying $3 a gallon for the past few months!

TECH: "Health" phones

The term "Well-Being" has been commonly used in South Korea in recent years to describe a health-conscious lifestyle. With the popularity of the Well-Being concept, handsets in South Korea began to add functions that are health-conscious, Japan's itmedia reported on July 25, 2005.

Well-Being handsets began to appear in late 2004. Anycall introduced the SPH-E3330 which has a pedometer and a separate unit for measuring body fat. Users input sex, height and weight information into the handset and place both thumbs on the measuring unit which uses the infrared communication function of the cellular phone. The user's body fat percentage is displayed on the cellular phone screen.

Pantech & Curitel introduced the PH-S6500 which supports the Running Mate function for joggers. Users can jog carrying the handset after inputting height, weight, and length of stride. The handset will display exercise distance, speed, and calorie consumption. The PH-S6500 is also suitable for mountain hikers as it incorporates a compass, altimeter and air gauge.

Cyon also offers a unique healthcare phone, the LG-SD410, which has a unique sports car design and a built-in alcohol detector. Breathing into the detector on the side of the handset allows the measurement of the user's alcohol level and displays the result. The phone then informs the user if it is ok to drive or if the probability of an accident is high. The LG-KP3400 is known as a health care phone as it can check blood sugar when it is used with an optional blood drawing kit. [M. Robertson, Portelligent]

MUSIC: I TOLD YOU SO JAY-Z AND NAS SQUASH BEEF, AND START LOVE MOVEMENT

I KNEW IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN/NOW ITS TIME FOR THAT Jay-Z album. Oh, and now I'm almost certain that Jay and Nas will be on Kanye's "We Major" remix.
HERE IS THE DEETS FROM ALLHIPHOP.COM

Hip-Hop Harmony: Jay-Z And Nas Officially Dead Beef
By Seandra Sims and Houston Williams
Date: 10/27/2005 11:11 pm

Jay-Z warned everyone that he was "getting the itch" for a good show in New York, and the rapper came out swinging with the first of a pair of concerts initially to air his grievances with rival rappers.

The highly publicized event, which was sponsored by New York's Power 105.1, eventually became somewhat of a peacefest. The biggest shock of the night at Jay-Z's "I Declare War" Concert was when the megastar announced, "It's bigger than 'I declare war.' It’s like the muthaf**Kin’ president presenting the United Nations. Let's go, Esco!"

The stunned crowd of thousands inside the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ screamed in approval as Jay and his former nemesis Nas appeared onstage together, signifying that two of rap's biggest names had finally deaded their once-bitter beef.

"A lot of ni***s is makin' money and still f***in' mad at the world!" Nas said. "We [are] savin' the East Coast with your help."

Nas performed the hook to Jay’s "Dead Presidents," followed by his own classic, "The World Is Yours." Jay-Z exited briefly and gave his counterpart time to rock his classic songs like "It Ain't Hard to Tell" and "New York State of Mind."

Jay-Z rejoined Nas onstage and said, "Damn, this is some s**t right here!" Nas spun into "They Shootin'" with Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who also performed "Hate Me Now" with the Queens superstar.

"We all in this s**t together," Jay-Z said after the songs. "Y'all witnessed history. Everybody in this building is a part of history. All that beef s**t is wack." He then concluded the show, leaving some beef-seeking fans to grumble.

But, the show was far from a disappointment. The hip-hop icon's concert kicked off with a bang as throngs of eager concertgoers poured into Powerhouse, the annual mega concert by Power 105.1.

At the show's opening, Jay-Z emerged onstage seated in a presidential setting reminiscent of the Oval Office, with a voiceover of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech blaring in the background.

From the very beginning, the crowd threw their Roc signs in the air while chanting "Hova, Hova, Hova," signaling that the rap megastar has lost none of his shine during his semi-hiatus from the mic.

"I don't think y'all muthaf***as [are] ready tonight!" Jay-Z proclaimed above the screams of the crowd, as two staunch security guards manned the rear of his Oval Office. "'This is my house in this muthaf***a...y’all don't understand...I own the Nets! (whose regular season home games are played in the Continental Arena)." When the "god MC" performed songs like "You Don't Know" the audience held on to his every word. Eventually, Jay plucked a young boy out of the crowd, who played impromptu hype man. "Don't stage dive. Don't try to upstage me with none of that cute kid stuff...you like summer?" Jay-Z asked. The rapper then spun into "Dear Summer," one of the biggest songs of 2004.

Aside from Jay-Z and Nas, solidarity was a common thread through the evening.

During the show's other surprises, Freeway burst from backstage to perform his verse from "What We Do." Looking at Freeway, "Jay-Z said, "We missing some sh*t (on this stage) to make this whole thing complete!" A hooded Beanie Sigel, who once played mentor to Freeway, came out to perform, throwing up the Roc diamond sign to the crowd's delight. "Roc for life, n***a.you already knew," Beanie said.

The Lox and Jay-Z's old friend Sauce Money also graced the stage to perform Jay's classic posse cut, "Reservoir Dogs" to everyone's surprise. They were followed by a quick impromptu appearance by Diddy, who was once the subject of The Lox’s scorn, and a stirring rendition of “The Benjamins.”

Jay-Z also paid homage to those that have passed.

"We also got to pay respect to the pioneers of the game, and that's Jam Master Jay and Run DMC," Jay-Z said as he rolled into a set paying homage to JMJ, Big Pun, Big L, Aaliyah, Biggie, Tupac, and even Civil Right icon Rosa Parks.

Shortly after, Kanye West emerged from below the stage floor to perform for "President Hova," and was joined by Houston rapper Paul Wall on the track "Drive Slow."

Over the course of the night, he brought out special guests Teiarra Mari, Ne-Yo, Peedi Peedi, Memphis Bleek and along with a four-song set by T.I. T.I. was joined by Young Jeezy, who was a fan favorite with the hook-heavy songs from his debut album Let's Get It: Thug Motivation 101. Jay, with a fresh set of clothing, returned on the tail end of Young Jeezy's set to perform "Go Crazy."

Initially, fans and gossip mongers thought that Jay-Z was going to “go crazy” and wage a personal beef with a number of artists in the rap community.

At an earlier appearance at Power 105, the Def Jam president revealed that he would address some of whom he called "hard-headed" critics of his "Carter Administration" during the show, but never revealed those people he intended to disrespect. Many fans and gossip mongers speculated he would go after The Game, 50 Cent, Jim Jones, Cam’ron or others.

"I gotta put 'em in the choke hold, the Boston crab," the rapper told Ed Lover of Power 105.1. "I gotta smash a couple of people. Everybody better make up and be my friend."

A second show, set for October 28, is slated for Philadelphia's Wachovia Center in conjunction with Power 99, another Clear Channel radio station.

The last time Jay-Z declared war he jumpstarted a long-running feud with Nas and Prodigy of Mobb Deep, unleashing such hits as the mixtape-gone-mainstream "Takeover."

“As it was coming together, I seen Puff perform with The Lox, T.I. perform with Jeezy, the return of Beanie Sigel…so I said f**k it,” Jay-Z said. “So you know what I did for y’all, what I did for Hip-Hip?”

And, one era ended as another began.

TECH: Sprint WiMax

Sprint WiMax

This will enable Sprint to not only be a national ISP, but to remove common conceptions of fixed ISP. The WIMax modem technology Sprint is attempting to deploy will ensure that a broad range of WiMax devices will share an account... for example, WiMax deployments could fit in a PDA that would share bandwidth allocations with home internet that would share bandwidth allocations with your HDTV.

Sprint intends to compete directly with Cable, Satellite, ISPs, and traditional Wireless. By bundling all telecommunication services ever envisioned, Sprint will tackle everyone by offering everything.

Now, how is Sprint going to get there? Sprint has multiple hurdles it must cross in order to obtain this vision. First, Sprint must gain a WiMax standard. Sprint is doing this by attempting to force WiMax standards through as an open modem technology... one WiMax device is compatible with another, and is mobile from the start. If this fails, Sprint will most likely divert to the nearest derivative of WiMax, currently WiBro, though Flash-ODFM is an additional fallback should such subsequent technologies also fail.

But, Sprint was late to the WiMax game... Sprint lacks the licenses to deploy a national WiMax network on the critical 700 MHz band.

In comes the FCC. As a part of the transaction of iDEN to the federal government, Sprint will gain a blank check to rebuild the 700 and 800 MHz bands in their image, taking licenses as needed from whoever has them regardless of how fairly they gained them at FCC auction in the past. With Congress, the FCC, and the President in the loop, Forsee, Donahue, and Lauer will have no problem in gaining dominance of the WiMax and digital CDMA 800 MHz spectrum needed to reform technologies in their image.

The final step in this strategy is bandwidth. As you may know, local loops to existing cellular structure generally tap out at about 10 T1 lines per tower in a high traffic cell site. Sprint will form a network coalition to utilize dark fiber across the country to connect the city-wide WiMax towers whenever possible, feeding into Sprintlink backbones in order to ensure that the entire network is able to deliver above-DSL speeds to all customers at all times. Clearly, the goal is to make all metropolitan areas at least initially wired via fiber, and eventually, to create a national fiber optics "spine" that will connect every citizen wirelessly to a fiber optics internet directly.

TECH: Accidental Invention Points to End of Light Bulbs

The main light source of the future will almost surely not be a bulb. It might be a table, a wall, or even a fork. An accidental discovery announced this week has taken LED lighting to a new level, suggesting it could soon offer a cheaper, longer-lasting alternative to the traditional light bulb...

Main points:
LEDs produce twice as much light as a regular 60 watt bulb and burn for over 50,000 hours. The Department of Energy estimates LED lighting could reduce U.S. energy consumption for lighting by 29 percent by 2025. LEDs don't emit heat, so they're also more energy efficient. And they're much harder to break.

TECH: One for All

Most people I know, carry a cell-phone and a mp3 player. With the introduction of portable video players, some people will be carrying around three separate gadgets. I had an Ipod Shuffle which I just gave to my brother. I hated juggling the Ipod and cell-phone each time it rang. I just got a 1gb multi media card off of ebay. I use it with my Nokia 6600. I added an mp3 program and movie player program to the phone. I now have a portable media player in my cell-phone. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying go out and buy a 6600.( I like the 6680 and the N91 myself) I just want people to be a little more tech savvy. It will save them money in the long run. There are a lot of new phones coming to the market and a lot of them have mp3 player included in them. Look at the big picture here folks. A decent cell-phone may run you about $200 at the least. A mp3 player may run you $100 - $300 on average. A personal video player will run you about $300 and up. That's about $600 to $800 at the least for all three gadgets. Take $500 of that and get one device with the amenities of a cell-phone, an mp3 player, and a personal video player.

Now to be fair, I must say that each individual device is dedicated to its respective function. In most cases these devices function pretty good individually. Some of the arguments I have received against having a centralized media/communication device is that quality may be compromised due to the restraints of current processors in cellular devices. True my Nokia 6600 does get a little choppy when I am multi tasking. But, we're talking about ever improving technology people. In the good ol' USA this technology will be trickled down to us slowly. But, there is always ebay and importers. If you do a little research and deal hunting, you will come out on top with a decent priced device that will function as your cell phone, mp3 player, and video player. ( Oops I forgot the digital camera....But that standard on phones now a days.)

TECH/POLITICS: Fingerprint Payment System Becoming a Reality

PAY ATTENTION TO THIS ONE FOLKS. IT'S YOUR PRIVACY WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HERE. AND EACH DAY A LITTLE BIT GETS TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU.

A San Francisco start-up, Pay By Touch Solutions, is expected to announce today $130 million in fresh financing for a novel way of paying for groceries and other goods and services: a machine that reads your fingerprint.....I don't like this one at all.

There are so many oppurtunities for ID theft with this one. Oh, and lets not forget about Big Brother. This technology isn't new but every day it gets closer to being intergrated into our lives. A lot pc's have fingerprint ID for security reasons. I'll give them the finger on this Fingerprint crap.
