Can you see it? -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Here's my thoughts on this issue. In the business world this is excellent for gathering data. It helps companies identify trends etc. But this technology can also totally compromise our privacy. Certain companies want put these tags in your clothes. I don't like this at all. For example lets just say you go to the store to buy a polo shirt. There is an RFID gateway at the check out. Once you buy the shirt with your Credit/Debit card the gateway links you (through your credit/debit card) to that polo shirt. Keep in mind ALL of your personal info is linked to that credit/debit card. So a week later you wear that shirt to the mall. (Now keep in mind that advertising companies will pay stores to implement this technology because it helps them to identify the consumer's shopping trends and increase revenue.) Each store you visit is equipped with RFID gateways. Now they know that John Smith frequently shops at GAP, likes chocolate icecream and likes chick flicks. Okay not too bad right....Think again. Lets just say your driver's license is embedded with an RFID tag. And, every store, gas station, atm, bank, school and major intersection is equipped with a RFID gateway or sensor. Now, more PERSONAL information is available in real-time. Everyone has to go to the pharmacy. Your medical information isn't private anymore. Now advertising companies know John Smith, has hemroids and uses Viagra. Okay now you have major advertising companies are willing to pay for that data. John Smith has cable (legal cable). He now starts to see more more commericals about Preparation H, Viagra, Edy's Ice cream, Gap jeans and chick flicks. I've seen variant of this technology used for years in the form of a barcode. But barcodes still rely on the human factor in order to be scanned. When you eliminate the human factor what you end up with is a real time accurate stream of continuous infromation. Logistically this would greatly improve business for any company. But when I think about this technology being used to track people instead of packages, it gets kind of scary. To take it to the extreem, lets say want to play hookey from work to go to baseball game and you call in sick. Your, company which has a strict integrity policy makes you sign a release form that grants them access to your RFID information on days you call off. Now they too know where you were on the day you called in. This technology compromises our privacy and what little freedom we have left. read more | digg story The digg story about the "dry water" also has some other side-effects. Turns out that if you oxidise this liquid a normal animal (such as a mouse) or human can easily "breathe" the liquid into their lungs and fully function. Here is an experiment on a mouse using a similar solution. read more | digg story Very interesting story of how AIDS is being treated in Botswana.
